This monument is a significant historical icon raised by local patriotic fervour at the time of Federation. It is also a significant example of the work of James White, a successful and innovative sculptor during that period. File Note: The monument is a handsome pile on concrete foundation. The first base is Harcourt granite, the second of Greytown granite, surmounted by a pedestal and column of highly polished green granite from Belgium. A lamp stands above. At the foot of the monument is set a gun forming an effective and fitting touch. The pedestal which carries the inscriptions has four sides with a design of crossed rifles.
